Discover the wide variety of winter animals Minnesota has to offer. Following clues found in nature, find out where animals live and what they need to do to survive the frozen forests. Each day we will head out on a hike and play fun nature games while in search of some cold critters.

HARTLEY HIBERNATORS
Join us in a week long exploration of hibernators in the Northland. Each day we will explore a specific animal through stories, crafts, and outdoor activities. Bats, bears and various other winter hibernators will be part of the fun this week.

ARCTIC ART & ADVENTURE
Though these northern woods may seem cold and empty during winter, there is so much beauty to explore out there!  We will travel the Hartley woods in search of inspiration and creativity. Join us in making wintery crafts, snow sculptures, ice ornaments, and some native northland art!  We’ll tap into our adventurous side too for some fun winter games!

How do animals survive in the MN winter? Through games, stories, and play we’ll learn winter survival techniques of local animals. With teamwork and creativity we will explore Hartley Park putting our own survival skills to work to brave the long winter as early pioneers may have.

SNOW SCULPTING
Snowflakes are uniquely shaped and can be used to make cool outdoor creations. Along with our own creations, we will spend time walking through the park looking at how the snow shapes the landscape as well.

Explore Hartley Park on foot and snowshoes (weather permitting) as we learn what changes occur in nature during winter. Build forts, hike through the forest and discover what’s moving around in the frozen pond. Bring your adventurous spirit!
