Hartley Halfpints
Hartley Halfpints are taking their first solo steps into the wilds of Hartley Park with opportunities to create, explore and learn in a shortened week. Hartley Nature Preschool staff will immerse campers in one fascinating theme for the entire camp, inspiring wonder and allowing for in-depth, hands-on fun. Campers must be at least three years old and fully toilet trained before camp begins.

Few things are more fun than the waterways of Hartley Park. Visit vernal ponds, babbling creeks, and the big pond in search of the plants and animals that call water home. Bring your own rubber boots or borrow ours-you'll need them-as we grab our nets and leave no slimy rock unturned in search of our watery friends!

Forest Nymphs

Hook, Line and Sinker
After mastering fishing equipment, skills and techniques, we will hit the water of Hartley Park in search of trout, sunfish and bass. Campers will explore the ponds and streams of Hartley by foot and by canoe. And once we have mastered Hartley, we will spend Friday at Wild Rice Lake in search of bigger fish.

Hartley Sampler
If you're having trouble deciding between all of Hartley's fun camps, this is the one for you! We'll cram as many of our favorite Hartley activities into this week as we possibly can. We might put our animal detective skills to the test in the fields and forests of Hartley before gathering supplies to build a cozy fort and heading to the pond to see what life is like underwater. Whatever you like to do at Hartley, you're sure to find it here!

Art Outside
A perfect class for the budding artist, this session includes all new outdoors-inspired art projects. Mountain Biking
Mountain bikers across Duluth already know what you will learn: Hartley Park is awesome for biking! For campers with little to no trail riding experience, we'll learn safety and basic technique, then get out there to experience the hills, valleys and bridges. Each day will also include nature study and team games. Campers must bring their own helmet and trail bike (with front and rear hand brakes) each day!

Forest Hideouts
Campers will be exploring the deeper woods of Hartley Park searching for the perfect place to build a great hideout. Looking at the building techniques of park residents like squirrels, beavers and foxes, we will come up with safe designs to build hideouts using natural materials we find.

A Raptor's Life
What's the difference between a hawk and an owl? Where do Raptors live? During this camp we will learn all about Raptors and other birds as we take a special field trip to Hawk Ridge, see song bird banding back at Hartley, dissect owl pellets and go on lots of birding adventures throughout the week.

Water Engineering
How does a beaver build such an effective dam? Why do rivers move sideways? We will explore both of these questions and more as we dig into learning about water and how it changes the landscape. We will test our dam building skills, make a glacier and create flood models to see the action first hand.

Glensheen Explorers
Spend a week on the grounds of the historic Congdon Estate exploring the history and ecosystem on this seven acre property. Campers will identify and inventory plant species, search for invasive plants and collect data on the aquatic life in Tischer Creek. A little history, a few games and creek cruising fills out this week–long adventure.

Tischer Trekkers
Tischer Creek flows through Hartley Park and all the way to Lake Superior. Trekkers will travel and explore Tischer from start to finish and learn about the different parts of its watershed. Trekkers will also use Glensheen, the Historic Congdon estate, as a base for two days of exploration and data collection.

Urban Wilderness Camp
Using the nature center as a launching point, spend the week exploring other wild places in Duluth. Going deeper into city parks that may include strolling through Chester, hiking around Lester, or sunning on Park Point. A week of exploring trying to find perfect spots to play games, swim, catch critters, build forts, skip rocks, hang out, and learning about all the unique areas of the city and the living things that share this place with us.

Boys in Boats!
Having honed their basic fishing skills on-site, this full-day camp will go a-field, affording campers the opportunity to fish a few of the area's finest lakes and rivers. Highlights will include adventures on Wild Rice Lake and a two day, one night trip to a northern lake. Campers will experience setting up a fishing campsite, cooking over a fire and all skills needed to lead future expeditions.

Join us for a camp designed just for girls! We’ll explore both the science and art sides of nature while learning new skills too. Grown-ups, grab your favorite kid (4-8 yrs) and head to Hartley for a camp of your own! This one day camp is intended to give you an opportunity to try camp out for yourself,learn something new about nature and create a project and many memories together. No charge for accompanying adult. FAIRY HOUSE: Spend the afternoon exploring some of our favorite outdoor spaces in search of fairies. Grown-ups, grab your favorite kid (4-8 yrs) and head to Hartley for a camp of your own! BUTTERFLY CARETAKER: Get a hands-on experience with our resident monarch butterflies within our large Butterfly Garden. Learn about butterfly habitat, explore our native plants, collect seeds to start your own butterfly garden at home! We will hopefully have an opportunity to observe caterpillars, chrysalises, and release our adult monarchs, depending on availability.
