Have you been to Hartley Nature Center or attended a Hartley field trip and thought- wouldn’t this be a great thing to share with family and friends for a special occasion? Those same great programs are available by reservation for the public. We do what we do best in naturalist-led educational programming and you do what you’re best at- bringing the food and your friends! What a great and unique place for an educational experience no matter what the occasion- birthday parties, scout meetings, family reunions and receptions. In addition to the beautiful park setting you tap into the expertise of the Hartley Nature Center staff. Garden Nights

Tuesdays, 6-8pm- June 6 & 20, July 18, August 1 & 15

If you have an interest in helping better our beautiful park home then here is your chance. Two evenings per month we are hosting a volunteer project within our gardens here at Hartley Nature Center and would love to have you join us! Our evenings will be spent in either our Butterfly and Hummingbird Garden or Water Garden weeding, labeling plants, spreading mulch or planting new baby plants. Come to see what’s blooming in the gardens, learn about native plant landscaping, get to know your fellow Hartley supporters and enjoy your community-supported nature center. Nature Nook, Nature Play Group

NATURE NOOK MONDAYS- Ages 2-5 with parent/guardian

Our weekly get-together that includes reading a nature themed book, making a craft and taking a short hike. Meet here at 10am and be sure both of you are prepared for the weather. Runs 90 minutes every Monday, September through May. Cost: $5 for members, $8 for non-members

NATURE PLAY GROUP MONDAYS- Ages 0-5 with parent/guardian

This weekly drop-in program meets at 10am in the Hartley Nature Playscape area. It is facilitated by a Hartley educator with a welcoming circle then is openly structured allowing children to explore within the elements (including water) as they choose. (only cancels for extreme weather). Runs 90 minutes every Monday, June through August. Cost: $2/participating child


Staff led Hikes, Education Programs

HNC staff-led hikes meet at Hartley Nature Center. Call to pre-register: 724-6735 

Cost: $5 Mbr, $8 Nonmbr; Kids are FREE! 

Wildflower Walk- 
May 16, 6 pm

Do you know where the secret patch of bloodroot is? Can you tell the difference between an oak fern and an ostrich fern? Join Joy for a guided evening wildflower walk where we’ll stroll through Hartley Park, stopping to check what’s blooming or who’s singing. Learn tips on how to identify plants, fun folklore tidbits and see treasures of Hartley Park.

Frog and Salamander Hike- June 8, 6pm

Discover the secret world of frogs and salamanders on this naturalist led hike. Explore the vernal ponds of Hartley and learn how to identify some of the local frogs that call this park home.

Beaver Hike- June 21, 6pm

Want to learn all about nature’s engineer, the beaver? Join us as we go for a hike and investigate all of the clues left behind from Hartley’s very own resident beavers and learn how their activity can impact the world around them. Please be ready to walk along uneven trails.

Hartley History Hike- July 12, 6pm

Experience the rich history of Hartley Park as we hike up to Rock Knob. Imagine what Hartley would have looked like and see what remains of the past. Be prepared to hike up hill and on uneven trails.
